This full-day tour is one of the most popular among our programs. It offers a fascinating opportunity to explore ancient history while relaxing and sunbathing during a yacht tour to the Sunken Islands. Along the northern shore of these islands, geological movements over the years have caused some ancient houses to become fully submerged, while the remains of others are scattered along the coastline. During the yacht cruise, you will see the fascinating Lycian Necropolis, chest-type tombs, and the ruins of ancient houses, visible both on land and underwater. The finest examples of Lycian funerary architecture can be found at Myra, near the growing present-day town of Demre. Additionally, the Church of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, is located in the heart of Demre. This splendid full-day tour combines both bus and yacht travel, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and historical exploration. Myra was once one of the most important of the six Lycian cities. Originally a coastal city, it now lies several miles inland due to silt buildup from the Demre stream. Myra was abandoned after the Arab invasions in the 9th century A.D., but its rock tombs and amphitheater are well worth a visit. Simena (Kekova) is one of the most beautiful spots in the region, accessible only by boat. The Lycian-type sarcophagi visible in the sea as you approach are particularly striking. Demre, home to the Church of St. Nicholas, is where the legendary figure of Santa Claus first brought joy. St. Nicholas lived and worked here, and over time, his persona evolved into the jolly Christmas figure. The 11th-century church once housed his remains and is now Demre's most visited site.
